How To Get Your Kids Excited About Dental Health

posted in: Uncategorized | 0

Most parents know it’s important to instill healthy habits in your children early on – but for many parents, this task is easier said than done…

It’s no surprise that kids just aren’t excited about certain chores, like cleaning their rooms, taking a bath, going to bed, and of course brushing their teeth. Most children that visit our dental care office think that brushing their teeth is boring, which can make it difficult to turn into a twice a day habit. Today our dental team is sharing their best tips and trick to help make dental care fun and easy for both kids and adults, right from the start.

Buy a fun toothbrush and kid-friendly toothpaste

Indulge a little on a fun themed toothbrush your child will love. The good news is that there are so many options available, featuring popular movie characters, superheros, and tv stars. Never before have there been so many options available to get a little creative with your toothbrush choice! Get your family excited about brushing their teeth every night with one of their favorite character or color. Kids also enjoy milder mint or even fruity flavored toothpaste. Keep in mind your child’s current tastes, and be sure to get them a toothpaste that they won’t totally hate the taste of.

Lead by example

Show your kids how important it is to brush their teeth by brushing yours! Show them how to brush, floss, and rinse on a regular basis. By creating a regular routine, your children will expect to brush their teeth every morning and evening.

Reward good brushing behavior!

Rewarding good brushing behavior is a great way to encourage good habits. This can be especially useful if you find yourself having a particularly difficult time encouraging regular brushing and flossing habits.

Prevention works best

Regularly scheduled dental check-ups and dental care helps to catch any potential issues early on, so they can be addressed quickly. These routine dental check-ups are also beneficial in helping to prevent chronic or painful dental conditions later on.

As a parent, it’s important to keep in mind that tooth decay is preventable, but your children need some guidance. Staying on top of dental care starts at home, and it’s recommended to keep up with popular “back to school” check-ups to keep your child’s dental care on the right track.
